Has anyone else noticed similarities between Red Dwarf and Futurama?

Both are set in the future, have 'evolved' or fictional Characters. Both have nanobots who ate their clothes. Both have paradoxes, eg. Lister is his own Father, Fry is his own Grandfather. There are quite a few similarities I have noticed that I cant think of off the top of my head. Do you think this is merely a coincidence?
