Is it necessary to have a course to operate a SLR or DSLR digital camera?

I've been told that to operate a SLR/DSLR digicam,i've to undergo a photography training!!!!On that basis,I can't buy a digicam because i want quality which comes easily with SLR & DSLR but after buying if I can't use it properly then it's gonna be a nasty thing!!!so please clarify it for me!!!thankss in advance!!!
